January 2011

January was a good month. There were no illnesses (I have a feeling I'm going to regret saying that). Bella is starting to stand. At last! She is very late like her brother and I don't think she will be walking for another few months. She knows her own mind this one.

Sam is learning how to play chess. Scott loves playing chess and Sam seems to have the chess gene. He already knows how to set the board out and where the pieces can go. He also loves playing chess on the computer with a virtual friend the same age. Chess equals less tv!

I've been making cakes, reclaiming my room back (it was a bedroom) and am happy making bits and bobs in there. With the help of books from the english library I am learning new things and am loving the seventies crafts books they have.

It is very cold though and we are burning wood at an alarming rate. Fingers crossed this year we can make the improvements to the house and put some insulation in and new floors so next winter will be more comfortable.
On the whole, a great month!

  1. glad you had a good start to the year. i need to get a room of my own one day - i love your bits and bobs. : ) and that expression. bella's feet are soooo cute and tiny! her cheeks are the same pink as her cardi! she's so adorable. ez didn't walk until he was 18 months old. i think i need to teach him to play chess so he can play online with sam. he's just discovered my computer this last month. i could write a whole post about that... if he were playing chess i'd be proud!

  2. Sounds like a wonderful month Andrea!
It's been a very tough winter here also. At the moment we are in the middle of a "big one." Predictions of 24 inches before it's over sometime tomorrow. It sure is pretty, and my shovel and I are becoming very good buddies!

  4. Lovely recap- I love the smell of a wood stove- we have gas and it is not the same- nor do we use it- when we lived in Detroit we had a fire going always-

  5. I keep the heat turned wayyyy down to save money. Drives my family nuts. But why should we spend $$ to heat the house so we can wear shorts indoors? That's what sweaters are for. I should send them to your house to see what it's like, but with that wood fireplace they'd probably never leave.

  6. so the gingerbread house is from a willy wonka kit. i hot glued the pieces together so it would hold together nicely. one day i'd like to make my own from scratch - we do have a great gingerbread man recipe- but these kits are so convenient and for the price it almost is probably money to do it this way. nice to come back here and see bella's sweet face.
