The sewing, sorry kitchen table

I've been after the old table which belonged to our house before we bought it for yonks. It was covered in carpentry machinery, tools and wood dust, so I couldn't really see what it was like. But I needed (I still need) a sewing table. As promised, Scott delivered it to me, sanded and oiled. It came out beautifully and I had completely forgotten that it was used as the kitchen table originally.

Change of plan. We decided to put it back in our 'compact' kitchen. I can wait for a sewing table..... It's lovely to sit in the kitchen with a cup of coffee and eat our lunch and dinner at it. The drawer still had the old cutlery in it, a wooden whistle and a newspaper from 1962!

  1. AWESOME! Did you giggle with glee when you found all those things inside the drawer? A wooden whistle?! I have a dream to someday own a kithcen table with a little cutlery drawer built in. They don't really make them like that any more.

  3. It's beautiful! I have a similar size table, I think originally from France. Also with a drawer. They have so much life in them, love it love it. You should frame your newspaper! :)

  6. I love these old tables. We only ever buy vintage furniture and do it up ourselves. My favourite is my desk with a secret leather pocket underneath for stashing money, or jewels, I like to think.

  7. I love your table and that first photo, good grief it's gorgeous (your photo) I would have done the same as you, in fact I did, I brought home a vintage table with the intention of using it for a sewing or ironing table but it ended up as an island in my kitchen. Not large enough for sitting, but perfect for food prep and holding flowers!

All of your photos are so charming I feel as if I'm in a lovely storybook!
