In the garden

These photos are from a couple of weeks ago when we thought Spring had arrived. The children came home from school to help Scott plant peas and beans. They did a great job. The best bit of course is eating the fresh peas which Sam and Bella do like sweets. There's been no need for watering, as it's not stopped raining since.

Weeds war

It's a battle with the weeds at the moment. There is so much grass to cut and weeds to pull - an impossible task! Whilst Scott is busy working I'm trying to work in the garden with Bella chasing butterflies. I swear there's a white butterfly following her around. She squeals with excitement as she thinks she's caught up with it, only to cry with frustration when it flies off again. I tell her it's playing a game with her and she's happy again.

Anyway, so far everything is growing well. Even if it does look a little jungle-like.

Daisy chains

Each week we go down the road to Scott's parents house to cut the grass (they live in the UK). The children love it here and the house is situated in it's own micro-climate. Always feels a few degrees warmer than at our house. There were plenty of daisies so I sat and taught them how to make daisy chains. I spent many hours as a child sat in the playing fields behind our house making chains. Sam wanted his as a necklace and Bella wanted hers as a crown.

Green

There's definitely a green theme going on here. The garden is looking much healthier with all the rain for the last two weeks. The wind dropped and the sun shone late afternoon in our little yard. Sam wanted to jump from walls and chairs and Bella grabbed her bucket to collect strawberries - which aren't quite ready so she filled it with mud instead. I hope the second week of the school holidays is going to be a sunny one.

This weekend

Starting from Friday, the weather was lovely but it gradually became colder  - icy cold and windy! I walked around the village with Bella who desperately wanted to go inside the church (where Scott and I got married), picked a few flowers and more gardening for a change. We ate our homegrown salad and I carried on recycling clothes. This time a top that is too small which is now going to make a nice cardigan.

Before the rain

We made the most of the glorious weather. It's forecast rain until goodness knows when? We did loads of gardening. Many veggies planted, ground rotavated and lawns mowed. Unfortunately, many of the perennial flower plants look like they died in -19 oC temps. Our lovely 20 year old camelia looks pretty dead. What a shame. Maybe all the rain and warm-ish temperatures will bring some back to life. At least the chesnut tree in front of our front door has suddenly woken up.
